The Extended Body

The Extended Body consists of 100 IV bags with inserted LED lights attached to wires and copper tubes that transport the electricity between them and the artist body.
With each breath the LEDs light up the installation.

The Extended Body was a research project in the field of Art, Science and Technology at the Danish Technical University, Aalborg University and Bio Art Lab at SVA in New York, where Kalsmose collaborated with Prof. Henrik Bohr and neurologist Peter Michael Nielsen to create a visual installation for the 'invisible relation' that exists between humans. The object of the project was to create an artwork where neurology, quantum physics and technology combined to render visible the invisible connection between humans, which is what constitutes our humanity.
